About the Farm

Rest & Be Thankful Farm began with a letter. After years of driving by the antique white colonial and big red barn, George Cheney decided to write to its owner. Within the year, George and Michele officially became farmers! In 2006, the barn was remodeled to house their family horses, and in 2011, the weddings began! After hosting two memorable events for their own children, it only seemed natural to continue the trend and make the farm an official wedding venue. For over five years, “the Homestead” hosted dozens of lovely outdoor weddings. While no longer regularly hosting large scale events, the farm is sometimes available for special occasions to select clients.

The Name

The name Rest & Be Thankful comes from a historical fiction novel called The Sherwood Ring, written by George's aunt, Elizabeth Pope. In the novel, Rest & Be Thankful is an old estate where generations of family lived and gathered together. While running the real Rest & Be Thankful isn't as restful as perhaps George and Michele originally hoped, they are thankful to be able to share their beautiful property with the wonderful couples and their loved ones.
