About Us

Rest & Be Thankful is a 65-acre private horse farm in Lyman, Maine, purchased in 2006 by George and Michele Cheney. The antique Cape and attached barn date back to the 1860s. The farm was named Rest & Be Thankful after the ancestral home in the novel The Sherwood Ring, written by George's aunt, Elizabeth Marie Pope. George and Michele, along with their daughter Lucy and son Bud, have worked hard to create a place that is active, but peaceful.

In the summer of 2007, the first stall was built and Lucy's event horse Bouncer arrived from Ireland. Since then, the rest of the Cheneys' horses have come to live on the farm, as well as our boarder, Rio. The cats, Angus and Smudge, along with eight chickens, round out the collection of animals in residence.
